AAO Congressional Advocacy Day & Mid-Year Forum: Drs. Alan Kimura & David Johnson
lan Kimura, MD and David Johnson, MD, vitreoretinal physicians and surgeons at Colorado Retina Associates attended the American Academy of Ophthalmology Congressional Advocacy Day and Mid-Year Forum, held April 10-13, 2019 in Washington, D.C. The Mid-Year Forum is one of the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s most significant yearly meetings, bringing the ophthalmology community together to instigate change and shape our profession’s future. The three-day conference covered many relevant topics, including legislative advocacy, directly relating around protecting and improving the ability to care for patients and their sight.
Each year, nearly five hundred ophthalmologists from around the country fly in to add their voices to advocacy for patients and for our profession. The group from Colorado represented well and included two residents from University, who started the day as novices and ended up leading discussions with our legislators’ staff. This year the focus was on several issues: relieving the regulatory burden of pre-authorization, escalating drug costs, drug shortages, and protecting funding for vision research. See the attached Forum agenda/program for further information.
